Shropshire Transition in Education Guidance (safeguarding children at educational transition points)

The Shropshire Transition in Education Guidance was developed in response to the following learning from both national and local learning reviews:

National:

“Rapid reviews and child safeguarding practice reviews have highlighted that missed opportunities to record, understand the significance of, and share information in a timely manner can have severe consequences for children” (Working Together to Safeguard Children 2023:p18)

Local:

A recommendation arose from a local review commissioned by the Local Authority, to improve the earlier sharing of safeguarding information between all settings/the LA at standard and non-standard transition points.

The focus of the review was a child with complex physical health needs and a social worker; who experienced  multiple (standard and non-standard) transitions to various educational provisions between Year 6 and Year 9. During this time; they experienced further extra-familial harm (criminal exploitation) resulting in them becoming securely accommodated by the Local Authority.
