“I just wanted to keep you updated about how R is doing. He is thriving at TMBSS and …we have rebuilt relationships with adults in school using playful approaches and he is happier than ever… I just want to thank you for all of the support you both offered during what was a difficult time for us - it is really appreciated.” (Head teacher)
Case Study Integration From TMBSS Into Secondary Mainstream (Via FAP)
A Year 10 student who finished last year with 58%attendance and had a challenging start to this academic year. The EWO worked with school and followed the process, providing consistent support and praise. As a result, the young person is now attending daily—even on days when her friend refuses to attend, which was previously a significant barrier. Thanks to this progress, it now looks likely that we can avoid prosecution, given the substantial improvement in her attendance.
A Year 11 student has shown a significant improvement in attendance following extensive support from school and the EWO. His year-on-year attendance has improved from 52.8% in 2022/23, declining in 23/24, and again in 24/25. However, since September, attendance has risen to 64.1%, and post-16 provision is secured! The YP reports feeling positive, with grandparents noting a marked improvement in his wellbeing, mood, and motivation. While fast tracks and visits were completed, the NTI stage has never been reached, and it is unlikely to be needed given the current trajectory. Great example of Multi- agency work!
Following extensive casework by the EWO and school, including a TEH referral and an NTI being issued, the impact of a Penalty Notice has been significant. Since the parents received the PN, the YP has attended school every day. This marks a major turnaround after a prolonged period of no improvement from parents. The student has now sat his mock exams!
A Y9 student was had received several suspensions from school in Y8 for persistent disruptive behaviour. A Pupil Support Meeting (PSM) was held in September and an Inclusion Mentor implemented. This student was struggling with her mental health and had received external support previously for this. Inclusion Mentor support focused on emotional regulation, resilience support and strategies to manage big feelings. During the PSM review in December 2025 it was celebrated that this student in Autumn Term 2 has received 0 suspensions, 3 behaviour points and 39 reward points. Support is being now gradually passed over from the Inclusion Mentor to the child's key person in school. Thank you for letting Outshine support!
