Funded Vocational Training

An exciting opportunity has become available for employees aged 16 or over working within Shropshire Council.

If you are aged 16+ and looking to enhance your skills with a qualification, or if you are a line manager and have members of staff aged 16+ within your team, County Training has funding for training at NVQ levels 2 and 3 through the apprenticeship programme.

An apprenticeship is a work-based training programme, which enables staff to gain a package of qualifications which consist of key skills, technical certificates and the NVQ.

Doing an apprenticeship will not change staffs job role or job title, it is designed to demonstrate the competencies individuals have in their current role, allow staff to develop their skills and enhance their future career progression.

Who can do an apprenticeship?

To be eligible for an apprenticeship staff must:

  • be aged 16 and above,
  • work 16 hours or more per week,
  • have no previous degree level qualification,
  • and have permission from their manager.

As a manager we would like to ask you to promote this opportunity within your team and help to identifying individuals who would benefit from the apprenticeship training. Also making sure that, throughout their training programme, the individual would be supported in the workplace and has sufficient time in which they can successfully complete the qualification.

Due to constraints on government spending, a contribution of up to £350 towards the cost of training may be required. Availability of funding is prone to change at short notice.
