Assistive Technology Lending Library (ATLL)

The Assistive Technology Lending Library is a SEND and AP Change Programme funded pilot that will provide schools with the opportunity to trial assistive technology devices and software with pupils before committing resources to buy.

By developing partnerships with education companies we have secured extended trial opportunities for software and devices to support inclusion. Some of the loans can be made direct to the supplier while others are made through Shropshire Council.

The ATLL funding will run until July 2026 but we are hoping to extend the scheme beyond this point.

Products available for loan

At this point in time we can offer extended trials of Widget Online (Widget), Proloquo (AssistiveWare), Clicker and DocsPlus (Crick Software) and Scanning Pen readers. We are in the process of setting up hardware with Clicker and DocsPlus pre-installed and hope that this will be available for loan shortly.

The SETT (Student Environment Task Tool) framework is a decision making tool to support the identification and matching of students' needs and abilities with appropriate assistive technology. It provides a selection of prompt questions to help educators work with children and involve them in the process of identifying the type of assistive technology to trial. The SETT framework questions can be found here

Training and using resources

Richard Smith has been working to produce video clips demonstrating the use of assistive technology to support inclusion. The video clips can be found at Richard's YouTube channel. If you would like us to produce a video clip demonstrating a particular feature, please contact Robert Court

Finally, Richard Smith from AmazingICT is delivering a session on using Artificial Intelligence to Support SEND in March. This will cover key messages and resources on using AI for inclusion. This is pre-funded by the SEND and AP Change programme and free for Shropshire schools and settings. Places can be booked using the links below or from the CPD pages elsewhere on the Shropshire Learning Gateway.
