Policy and Guidance

As a result of high profile losses of personal information, the Government has issued guidelines on secure data handling to try and ensure that everything possible is done to protect sensitive personal data. In addition, from 1 April 2010, the Information Commissioner’s Office has been given the power to levy fines of up to £0.5m on organisations who are found to be negligent in their handling of data.

So, it is very important that we do all we can to protect the data we hold on individuals.  Schools need to be aware of the Government's guidance on good practice in information handling and the very clear recommendations.

In order to help school staff and governing bodies ensure that they have good and robust information security, the current model policy  on Information and ICT Security (updated in 2010/11) is attached.
